In addition to her work with the Restoration Sciences Academy, Jessika also teaches a variety of courses with Legend Brands’ Cleaning Professionals Academy.

My name is John Carter and I am a Portland Oregon native. After high school had the pleasure of serving four years in the U.S. Army as a “Green Beret” in the 5th Special Forces unit at Ft. Bragg, North Carolina. Upon exiting the Army, I attended Portland State University, and earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration and marketing. While attending college, I started a small janitorial service with a budget of less than $400.00, which quickly transformed itself into a professional carpet cleaning and restoration company in 1978. Our professional services company eventually grew into a six truck operation that catered to repeat and referral customers exclusively.

In 1993, I handed over the operation of the cleaning and restoration operation to my nephew Darin, who still runs the company to this day. I was then free in October of 1993 to begin a new business venture in the wholesale distribution trade. Since 1993, Cleaning and Restoration Supply has grown to be one of the largest suppliers of professional carpet and restoration equipment in the industry with locations in Portland Oregon, Southern Oregon, and Albuquerque New Mexico. In October of 2019, we sold the distribution business to Aramsco Corporation. Now I am focusing on teaching IICRC certification courses and teach both live and live stream classes in the categories of CCT, UFT, OCT, RRT, CRT and Senior Carpet Inspector.

I started teaching in the late 1990’s and the IICRC categories that I teach for Barker-Hammer are:

  • Color Repair Technician
  • Repair & Reinstallation Technician

My teaching is based on what I would call “Real World Experience” as I have been involved in all aspects of our industry from all perspectives. As I draw from my 44 years in the industry, I don’t teach just theory but rather how to be the best you can be from all of my industry experience. Both the Color Repair Technician Course and Carpet Repair Technician Course have a heavy emphasis on “Hands-On” training so each student can become proficient in these skills upon the course completion.
